AS SOON AS YOU OPEN ME

Yay, finally I’ve arrived! After you've unpacked me and spent sufficient time marveling at my unique beauty (and possibly giving me a name), I will need a good soak in water (completely submerged) for about 20-30 minutes. After soaking, gently shake to remove any excess water, and put me into your suncatcher to dry off.

General

  • Keep in temps between 50-90°F / 10-32°C

  • Avoid cold drafts

  • Put into soil

  • Avoid temperature and sun extremes

Light

  • Bright, indirect light or consistent indoor lighting

  • 2 hrs. max of direct sunlight (AM sun preferred)

  • Full sun

  • Low light or full shade

Watering

  • 20-30 min. in room temperature water

  • Once a week

  • Fully submerged, unless blooming (see blooming)

  • Gently shake excess water and allow to air dry in suncatcher

  • Water me if: leaves look curled, rolled, wrinkled or brown (needs more frequent or thorough watering)

  • Mist with spray bottle between waterings, if needed

  • Distilled water

  • Soak longer than 1 hour (it will rot)

  • Hot or cold water

Grooming & Maintenance

  • Stiffer leaves = full of water, watered and happy

  • Softer/lighter color leaves = needs water

  • Wrinkled or rolled leaves = sign of dehydration

  • Gently pull off dried out/dead leaves

  • Trim any dead tips off but snipping them at an angle (you can also carefully trim the roots)

  • Rip off dried out/dead leaves

  • Cut leaves in the middle

  • Cut the base of the plant off

Blooming & Pups

Blooming (once in lifetime)

  • 2-4 times a week

  • Rinse for 1-2 minutes under running tap (avoid the blooms), gently shaking off excess water

Pups (1-3 offspring)

  • Gently separate once is 1/3 the size of mother

  • You may leave the pups on its mother to continue growing a “clump” (it can be impressive!)

Blooming

  • Submerge in water (this will kill the blooms)

Pups

  • Force separation from mother plant

  • Separate if less than 1/3 the size of the mother plant
